Welcome to
Namib Biogas.

The Namib Biogas project aims to lower Namibia’s carbon footprint by building a biogas plant operating on poultry manure. The plant is tailor-made for Namibia’s arid climate and innovatively combines existing technology to generate power. The plant will serve as the first ever biogas system in Southern Africa with zero (net) water consumption.

Our team passionately believes in the positive impact the Namib Biogas project will have on our environment and climate change in general. The project will serve the Namibian poultry industry by offering them a solution to produce energy and processed fertilizer from chicken manure.

With your support, Namibia can become a leading country in using clean energy on an industrial scale.

Be part of our journey.

Power the world
with chicken manure!

Offset your carbon footprint

Burning fossil fuels and large-scale cattle farming amongst other activities, causes the release of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases. Elevated levels of CO₂ in the atmosphere causes global warming, leading to chaotic and unpredictable weather patterns.

How big is your carbon footprint?

The average American emits 16.6 tons of CO2 per year.

The average European emits about 6.4 tons of CO2 per year.

The carbon footprint for people in Namibia is only 1.58 tons per year.

Like every country on the planet, Namibia has felt the adverse effects of climate change. Extreme weather now seems to be the norm and the recent unprecedented droughts are a good example of this. In fact, 2019 was the driest year in Namibia in 90 years. The irony of it is that even though we feel the harsh consequences of the climate change, we hardly contribute to it.

Offset your carbon footprint by donating into renewable energy projects. Be at the forefront of fighting global warming and contributing towards developing environmentally friendly and ecologically sustainable solutions for industry.

Power from Manure.

Power from Manure.

Switching to renewable energy is one way to lower the carbon footprint. For an individual Namibian, this is not a simple task as there are fairly little options available nationally.

However, the Namib Biogas project targets a whole industry: We will use chicken manure for energy production. We aim to build a biogas plant that will contribute towards making Namibia less dependent of non-renewable energy sources. Namibia is importing 60 % of its energy so Namib Biogas project also helps Namibia become more independent in energy production.

How can chicken manure be turned into energy? When organic matter, such as chicken manure, is decomposed in an oxygen-free (anaerobic) environment a blend of gases is released. Biogas is primarily methane, which can be harvested and used for energy production. The end products of the decomposition process of manure are biogas, heat and refined fertilizer, so every bit of manure gets utilized.

The Namib Biogas plant is tailor-made for Namibia’s arid climate and innovatively combines existing technology to generate power. On top of it, the plant will serve as the first ever biogas system in Southern Africa with zero (net) water consumption. Essential in a country where water is a scarce commodity.

We have secured access to ample chicken manure produced by the Namibian poultry industry. Namib Biogas also provides a solution for other waste-producing units, such as municipalities. We turn manure and waste into renewable energy!
